Thanks so much for your wonderful presentation yesterday at the NJ APHERD Convention. I really enjoyed the hour; your noticeable passion for the subject was contagious and my coworker and I couldn’t stop talking about your presentation on the car ride home.

It makes me sad… that teens don’t understand the dangers

Some emotions that are common in my life are happiness, and excitement but sometimes I feel emotions like anger and uncertainty. I enjoy feeling positive instead of feeling those negative emotions but everyone feels negative sometimes, it is just part of life.

Before we learn to teach a subject we must learn to understand each student for whom we are responsible. The Your Self Series provides the “step before the first step” of teaching. That is to teach to the “self” of each individual student Students must develop their sense of self in order to take ownership of what is taught to them both in the classroom and on the playing field of life.

I know of no other system in education to assist students with the challenge of “growing up” as powerful and effective as the Your Self Series. What Paula Prentis and Chris Parrott have created is the most complete program of skills, informational tools and practical activities available today to guide students through the minefield of adolescence.

I sat in on your inspiring session regarding mental health. Truly enjoyed the dialogue and was impressed with your honesty and willingness to hear the frustrations that were festering in the audience…. I love your approach to this subject and certain your advocacy will change one, if not many, lives.

The Your Self Series program has transformed our middle and high school Health Education experience. Since its implementation into our curriculum we have truly grown our project-based, student-centered learning experience and imbedded the social emotional learning skills that are paramount to the needs of all students. Teachers have found our students more willing to share their thoughts and feelings and contribute to insightful discussion. This has created a personal awareness and social sensitivity that is essential to their success in the navigation of life and its challenges.

The Mount Pleasant CSD has been very excited about the results of what we see in our young people since the implementation of Your Self Series, I highly recommend it to any school district looking to add an SEL component to their curriculum.

You can compare this Series to one-stop shopping! Everything an educator needs and wants for her students all presented in one package. As of recent, there have been many added pressures, mandates, standards and guidelines placed on educators. It’s beautiful to have a Series that presents meaning and a felt need for students while at the same time adhering to state and national standards in Health Education and Common Core.

It really helps to know I’m not alone, and I get to learn things not just about myself but others I see everyday that I pass in the hallway. Everyone has their own set of problems and different ways to cope with them. I got to learn to not be so inward on myself and take chances.

It (YSS) helped me think of things in a more positive way and I learned to let out my feelings in a less harmful way to myself.

Every school is in need of this effective and extraordinary social emotional learning addition to their program, all young people are in need of these skills more than ever to navigate through today's society successfully.

The Your Self Series team, Chris Parrott and Paula Prentis, could not be more professional and hands on with training, and their availability, not only at the program's inception, but throughout the years we have been using it.
